Gemini API now stores requests by default for new paid projects

New paid-tier projects default to store=true. Existing projects keep their setting.

On October 26, 2026, Google changed a default in the Gemini API. New projects on the paid tier that use the Generate Content API now store requests by default (store=true), matching the Interactions API. Existing projects keep their current setting.

What changed

  • Applies to generateContent, streamGenerateContent and batchGenerateContent.
  • New paid-tier projects now default to store=true.
  • Existing projects keep their current setting.
  • To opt out, set store=false on individual requests, or turn off Generate Content API logging in the Settings panel of the Logs and Datasets dashboard.

What to do

  • List Gemini projects created on or after October 26, 2026, including new environments and CI projects.
  • Decide per project whether stored requests are acceptable for your data, and turn off Generate Content API logging where they are not.
  • If you cannot change project settings, send store=false on each request.
